GreenFlux founding member of EVC-ISAC

Founding of EVC-ISAC in the Netherlands, an EV charging infrastructure industry group for improved cybersecurity

In the final quarter of 2024, several Dutch EV charging industry organisations came together to finalise the founding of the Electric Vehicle Charging - Information Sharing and Analysis Centre (EVC-ISAC). The Centre aims to bring together players from the Dutch EV charging industry to protect the country's EV charging infrastructure.

The EVC-ISAC is an initiative from the Nationale Agenda Laadinfrastructuur (NAL) Cybersecurity Task Force, RVO, ElaadNL, and seven participating private companies. The eight founding parties are Alfen, ElaadNL, Eneco eMobility, Fastned, GreenFlux, Last Mile Solutions, Milence, and Vattenfall InCharge.

The founding members of EVC-ISAC aim to improve the cybersecurity, reliability, and resilience of the Dutch EV charging infrastructure and prevent any negative impact on society. The EVC-ISAC provides a safe and trusted environment in which participants can exchange confidential information about threats, vulnerabilities, and other cybersecurity-related incidents. To this end, the EVC-ISAC will also collaborate with the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) and other sectoral ISACs.

Collaborative response to cyberthreats

As the eMobility industry is growing rapidly, its importance to society as a whole has progressed too. That is why EV charging has been identified as a critical industry that needs to be protected against cyberthreats. Think about incidents that can lead to charging issues for electric cars or trucks due to failure of the charging infrastructure, theft of personal data, and even problems with or (parts of) the electricity grid.

With new legislation on the horizon, the eMobility sector will need to work closely together to improve its collective cybersecurity. For example, the European Network and Information Systems Directive 2 (NIS2) directive will be transposed into the new Dutch Cyber Security Act, expected to come into force in the third quarter of 2025.

'With the establishment of the EVC-ISAC, the founding parties have taken the initiative to achieve greater digital resilience in the EV charging infrastructure industry.'

At GreenFlux, we are highly aware of the importance of collaborative cybersecurity resilience. Therefore, we are actively involved in turning the EVC-ISAC into a success. This process started over a year ago when the first talks took place among a couple of eMobility organisations. With great commitment and perseverance from all involved, the foundation of the EVC-ISAC in 2024 was the desired outcome. With the establishment of the EVC-ISAC, the founding parties have taken the initiative to achieve greater digital resilience in the EV charging infrastructure industry.

So, what is next? To make the EVC-ISAC even more impactful and influential, the Centre is actively searching for new members.
